"Umbra" is a work whose beauty lies hidden in its humble simplicity. Modest, "imperfect," and irregular black dots, devoid of ornamental elements, guided by a repeated gesture of my hand. The small and perfect dot; the long and imperfect one. Deep, dense black, simultaneously open. A play of chiaroscuro created by juxtaposing different linear layers of black embroidered thread. Inspired by the Japanese term "utsuroi," this work invites reflection on the beauty of the ephemeral and imperfection, asymmetries, and traces of time that reflect the ever-changing nature and transient life. The balance between light and shadow, the shadowy, where silence and darkness occupy the embroidered space. Hand-embroidered work on silk organza created with the Lunéville needle and chain stitch technique. This technique is traditionally used in the application of pearls and sequins in Haute Couture embroidery.

"Umbra" is part of the exploration into whether the modest and austere can be beautiful. This work highlights the beauty of the chain stitch, which is always hidden and relegated to the background. In this piece, it takes center stage. I push the technique to its limits, removing any ornamental elements and emphasizing the gesture of my hand: one minimal and perfect, the other exaggerated and distorted. The degrees of material opacity and the interaction of light and shadow are created through a repeated line of black thread embroidery in an empty space, in the shadowy realm.
